Trainee Schoolsworker Vacancies: Kent, Warwickshire, Nottingham and London

Are you ready to give young people like ‘Ashley’ the opportunity to learn about the Christian Faith?

crossteach provides high quality teaching about the Christian faith in schools, in partnership with local churches for all young people.

‘Ashley’ is a typical young person in the UK: they are growing up in a non-Christian home and have no contact with their local church. What opportunity does ‘Ashley’ have of hearing what Christians believe about Jesus from committed, skilled and passionate followers of Jesus? Without schoolsworkers and churches providing opportunities, young people like ‘Ashely’ would be left in the dark when it comes to the Christian faith.

‘Ashley’s’ typical school day often starts with an assembly, considering topics such as forgiveness. ‘Ashley’ enjoys RE and was particularly intrigued by the lesson looking at what Christians believe about the resurrection of Jesus. ‘Ashley’ has started attending a lunchtime club where they can listen to other people’s ideas and beliefs and are able to ask their own questions. They have been exploring the theme ‘God’s Love is…’. ‘Ashley’ now understands, engages with and responds to the Christian faith on a regular basis. ‘Ashley’ attends a school where crossteach leads these various activities - ‘Ashley’ is fortunate in having many opportunities to learn about the Christian faith.

How can we teach young people about the Christian faith unless people are willing to be sent into schools to make the most of the opportunities we have? Trainee Schoolsworkers can be based in any of our current teams;
Kent (Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge and Sevenoaks)
Warwickshire (Leamington Spa and Warwick).
London (Boroughs of Camden and Islington)
Nottingham (South and City)

Are you an authentic and passionate Christian with affirmed emerging teaching gifts and skills (in a UK school or UK church setting)? Do you love working in a team and have a servant-heart? Do you understand that an ambassador of Christ needs to have integrity and be able to build positive relationships with all stakeholders?

Our schoolsworkers support teaching and learning through:

Providing direct encounters with Christians speaking about their faith which are enjoyable, memorable and challenging.
Teaching informed RE lessons that provoke critical enquiry and thoughtful reflection.
Leading inspiring, stimulating Collective Worship.
Running extracurricular activities that allow pupils to explore fundamental questions about human life, religion and belief.

To be a successful Trainee, you need:

Passion for working with young people and helping them explore the Christian faith in a school environment.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with young people and adults.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage your time effectively.
Willingness to work collaboratively as part of a team, as well as independently.
Commitment to the aims and ethos of crossteach.

Training Highlights:

You will learn to deliver engaging, curriculum-relevant teaching about the Christian faith in schools through assemblies, lessons, and special events.
You will be encouraged to be creative and innovative when it comes to teaching about Christianity to pupils, using a variety of teaching resources and techniques.
You will be expected to establish and maintain positive relationships with school staff, students, and other stakeholders.
You will be actively involved in supporter relationships and fundraising.
You will be encouarged to be a reflective practitioner, contributing to the planning and evaluation of crossteach activities and projects.
You will build on your communications skills - written and oral - so that you can be confident in your communications to a variety of audiences in a wide range of contexts.

Term of contract: These are one-year posts.
Hours: 0.8 FTE. The other day is to be used for Theological Training (fees paid by crossteach).
Start Date: September 2025.
Salary: These are salaried posts. The salary will be National Minimum Wage (plus London weighting where appropriate). Trainees are required to assist in raising the required funds.
