Volunteer Code of Conduct

As a reputable Christian Charity we realise that staff and volunteers represent crossteach through their conduct as well as through their work, so we have a Code of Conduct which applies to staff. All applicable clauses also apply to volunteers.

1. crossteach is a professional organisation and we expect staff to:

  • Work within the terms and conditions of their contract including hours of work
  • Work within the crossteach policies, procedures and regulations
  • Provide an example of good conduct, especially by dressing and behaving appropriately and in line with the expectations for staff in a school
  • Ensure proper boundaries in relationships and ensure an appropriate professional distance with staff and students, including on social media
  • Use the appraisal process, feedback and training activities as opportunities to develop
  • Work within current national and local expectations, requirements and guidelines. Links are available in the staff handbook
  • Comply with all reasonable instructions given by managers

2. crossteach is a reputable organisation and we expect staff to:

  • Respect confidentiality and make sure that confidential or sensitive matters are not discussed outside of crossteach except with prior written permission from the Director (unless permitted by any current legislation e.g. Public Interest Disclosure Act 1998)
  • Use crossteach facilities and resources, including IT and phones, only for crossteach activity except with prior written permission from the Director
  • Recognise the boundaries between personal and professional life
  • Ensure proper boundaries in relationships and ensure an appropriate professional distance with staff and students, including on social media
  • If you choose to speak about crossteach outside of work time, including on social media, you should only do so in a way that furthers the aims of crossteach
  • Outside of work time you should not represent yourself on behalf of crossteach except with prior permission from your line manager
  • Do nothing to bring the organisation into disrepute

3. crossteach is a distinctively Christian organisation and we expect staff to:

  • Be fully committed to the mission and vision of crossteach
  • Recognise and respect the difference between personal Christian convictions and the appropriate teaching about the Christian faith in a school environment
  • Act at all times in good faith and in the best interests of crossteach
  • Guard their own spiritual and physical health

4. crossteach is a collegiate organisation and we expect staff to:

  • Work constructively with colleagues and a range of churches, organisations and volunteers who may hold some different Christian views from their own
  • Take reasonable care in respect of the health and safety of colleagues and third parties and comply with safeguarding, health and safety and security policies
  • Follow crossteach guidelines for working with volunteers
